Youth Fundraiser

Screen Shot 2016-05-12 at 4.54.11 PM

This month an unexpected blessing came our way in the form of a youth fundraiser. As you may know, we are having a summer camp this year in August, and this fundraiser would help tremendously in keeping costs low. The City of Santa Barbara has given us an opportunity to put in some community hours picking up trash in exchange for some financial support towards camp.

This means ALL HANDS ON DECK!! Below is the 411

When: May 22nd 2016

Time: 1:00pm-4:00pm

Where: Franklin Park, Santa Barbara CA

Who: All Fusion Students who can come

What: Students will be picking up trash around the Franklin Center in the lower east side of Santa Barbara. The City will be providing bags, gloves, trash pick uppers, etc.. For the event.

Why: This activity will help bring down the cost for summer camp 2016 for our students considerably. This is a city sponsored event, with a good financial return.

We are asking all those who are interested to meet us at the park at 1:00pm. We will have a couple of pizzas for lunch. Pick up and drop off at Franklin Park.

Disturb Us, Lord!

Ephesians 5:14

“Awake, O Sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”

This past weekend, April 9th, at Azusa Now 2016, many of us were AWAKENED.

Reading this morning from Daniel Kolendas book, “Unlocking the Miraculous” he has a section about “complacency”

He says;

“Complacency is a blight that saps energy, dulls attitudes, and causes a drain on the brain. The first symptom is satisfaction with things as they are. The second is rejection of things as they might be. Good enough becomes todays watchword and tomorrows standard. Complacency makes people fear the unknown, mistrust the untried, and abhor the new. Like water, complacent people follow the easiest course- downhill. They draw false strength from look back…

I know personally I have been stirred to live a life outside complacency! I do not want to live a passive Christianity!

In Ephesians chp5, Paul is encouraging the church of Ephesus to shake off the comforts of living the same as those around them. He says earlier in the chapter, to be “imitators” of Christ. To live according the leading of his Holy Spirit. To live in way that points back to Jesus!

This much is true, the more secure we feel in our complacency, the more danger we are in. It’s in that “comfort” that we forget about our inner need for God. It’s in that apathy we slip into a cold detachment of Gods purpose and will for our lives!

When that starts slipping in, it’s time to shout out loud,

“Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober” – 1 Thessalonians 5:6
